Project Reflection
This project was started by choosing partners and a country to study for our survival guides. We then created and performed skits based off of dialogue from our survival guides. My partners and I chose Costa Rica as our country to study because it is a cool, interesting place and I have also spent a month there before which helps us understand the country better. We each had to create three or four sections of the survival guide; I had to create three scenarios and the bibliography because my partners created the cover page, introduction, and table of contents. Then from the dialogue in my partner’s scenario, we created a script and performed it for the class and an audience at exhibition.
I learned a decent amount about my country during the research section of this project. I have previously visited Costa Rica and traveled all over the country for a month, but from this project I learned about tourist stuff like renting cars or hotels. If I was not able to rent a hotel in some Spanish speaking country before then I probably can now. I also learned about new businesses that are becoming more popular like B&B’s. Costa Rica’s main phrase is Pura Vida which means pure life and is written all over the place in the country. Costa Rica also means Rich Coast in Spanish which a lot of people probably don’t know.
There were also some other positive things that I got out of this project. I got some practice speaking in Spanish in front of an audience. Just more practice writing Spanish in general is probably helpful. I got to learn a few things from other groups studying other Spanish speaking countries. I also now know better how to plan for a trip to a country that speaks a different language, by looking into hotels and things to know for other activities I might do there.

Reflection
For this project we were assigned groups and then chose a spanish speaking country to do a project on journalism. My group decided to do a news report instead of a newspaper. For the first half of this project we had to do independent work and each create an article to perform for our report. I did my article on sports and we had to write it all in spanish. For the second half of the project we had to combine all our articles intro a script and film our news report.
I connected with this project by choosing a subject that was interesting to write about and didn’t bore me. The most fun part about this project was probably filming our news report because we got to work as a group and do something that wasn’t normal school work. My best moment during this was probably finally finishing writing my article because it was a real challenge writing multiple paragraphs in spanish.
This project was very difficult. I have only had to write full paragraphs in spanish a few times so this was still a pretty new thing for me. Writing my article was very hard but i persevered through it by going over it many times with other students and my teacher to ensure that it was good quality. It was also challenging to keep some of my group on task while we were filming the report but we got through it by being strict.
During this project I also learned that it takes me time to learn a language. I don’t think I learned any vocab from doing this project but I think it helped me be more comfortable with writing full sentences and paragraphs in spanish. I also had to be somewhat of a leader during this project while filming our video because my team was not motivated to sit in front of the camera so I had some different students help me be in the video.
After spending a month focusing on current events in a spanish speaking country I have gained some valuable knowledge on language learning. It takes time to learn a language but I know that if i have to communicate and i have resources available to me such as my peers or the internet that I can make do and succeed at my goal.

Dia de los Muertos
For this project, we spent a lot of time studying the day of dead celebration in Mexico and learned about the culture. We did multiple assignments and watched videos so we had a full understanding of the day of the dead. After we learned about what we were about to present we had the task to chose a person that we knew and lost, and then create a visual project that represents that person. We also had to write two paragraphs about that person and memories you have of them.

Comíamos sushi o fuimos a Francisco’s restaurante. Red le gustaba chocolate y tenía mucho chocolate. Ella también le gustaba ir de compras. Cuando yo era joven, nosotros fuimos a México anualmente. En México encontrábamos conchas y leíamos libros.

Reflection
During this project I learned a lot about the day of the dead, mainly that it is not similar to haloween other than that it happens around the same time and they both involve dead people. The Day of the Dead is a celebration of the lives and memories of family and friends that people have lost. They do that by making those people's favorite food and putting it on an altar with flowers and pictures of those people. This project was difficult because we had to write in spanish and that was a challenge because I don't think anybody in our grade is comfortable with writing full sentences in spanish yet. I liked that we did an art piece for this project and we had a lot of options to do what we want. I made a wire and paper mache figurine and painted it to look like my grandma. I definitely learned a lot from this project and had some fun doing it, so i will take a lot away from this project and hopefully it will help me in this class in the future.
