Receta y Oda
Introduction
For this project we each chose a country and chose a food that is eaten in that country. I chose the Dominican Republic and the dish ConCon. After that we had to create an ode for a dish or an ingredient in our dish. I wrote my ode on rice because that is the main ingredient in my recipe.

http://www.dominicancooking.com/1007-the-secrets-of-the-perfect-concon.html
Ingredients
2 tbs of Vegetable Oil
1 tbs of Salt
½ pot of White Rice
1 pot full of Water
Instructions
Quick cure your cooking pot (preferably cast iron or cast aluminum) by filling the bottom with vegetable oil and then add salt. Heat the oil until it is hot enough for frying and then add room temperature water to fill the pores in the pot creating a Teflon–like film. The rice (when cooked) should fill the pot ½ to ¾ full. The amount of water compared to the amount of rice varies based on your stove, rice, and pot that are being used. Stir the rice often and when you do make sure to remove the film forming at the bottom of the pot. When the water evaporates add 2 tablespoons of oil again and stir again (remember to scrape the film) then cover the rice. After 10-15 min repeat the process again but then leave the thin coat of film at the bottom. Once the rice is firm and chewable it is ready.

Ode
Ode to the Arroz
By Miles Rivera
Shell of rice
Bland but filled with possibility
The steam rises from the pot
A fuel that powers the world
The world can’t live without it
So small
White rice
Sticks to my spoon
With its warm embrace
It has no smell
Because it requires none
Rice is already perfect
Oda al Arroz
Por Miles Rivera
Cascara de arroz
Soso pero lleno de posibilidad
El vapor subiendo de la olla
Un combustible que alimenta la tierra
La tierra no vivir sin arroz
Muy pequeño
Blanco arroz
Pega a mi cuchara
Con su abrazo tibio
No tiene olor
Porque no requiere nada
Arroz es perfecto

Reflection
This project was a lot of fun and so was exhibition. Exhibition was packed and i got to eat a lot of different delicious food. If i could go back and redo something I would probably change my dish because it was really good but it wasn't very interesting. This experience was definitely the best project to end the year off and I enjoyed it a lot.
Arte y Lengua
Descripcion del trabajo:
In this project we studied many different artists and then at the end each student got to chose a hispanic artist that interested them the most. After that we studied that artist more individually than the brief overview we did as a class. We studied their style and then applied what we learned to create an original art piece with a similar style as our artist. Another thing we did was write a three paragraph two hundred or more essay in spanish describing our art piece and our artist. After this we had an exhibition where we pressented our art pieces and answered question in spanish that we prepared for.
Me gusta mi estilo.

reflexion
What I learned in this project is how to write longer paragraphs and sentences than just the simple six word sentence. I did learn some vocab and grammer while writing my paragraphs and questions for the exhibition. I had to look up a lot of new words and go through multiple drafts that were edited by others that really tested my grammer and I learned a lot of new things from it. It was cool how we combined art into it to make it more enjoyable and make it about a topic instead of just little example topics when we make sentances. I also learned a lot about my artist Joan Miro and his painting style. It was challanging to write a 200 word essay because i have never ever written close to that amount of spanish before.

Project Reflection/ Project Explanation
For this project we had to write and create children's books written in spanish and they had to be about a kid in a spanish speaking country. My country was Peru and I read my story in the youtube video above. This project is cool because it makes you write your own sentences and you aren't just remember words or short phrases. It was also cool to learn about another country and some of the cultures there. I'm really proud of my book and how professional it looks with the actual book covers and everything, and I'm also proud that I got it done early because a lot of kids didn't finish until the day before exhibition. If I were to do this project again I would definitely draw my pictures instead of print them out. At first I thought printing the pictures out looked more professional but some other kids books really impressed me with their drawings and it actually looks good when your drawings aren't that good because its a children's book. Overall, I had a lot of fun and learned a lot through this project and what to look forward to next time I do a project like this.
Exhibition Reflection
For the exhibition for this project my class went to a local elementary school to read our books to the children there. At first I thought it would be painful reading books to kids for an hour but it turned out to be a lot of fun and really funny. This was a good experience because I'm used to stressful exhibitions were you have to be perfect and explain your project 20 times but this was just having a good time reading books to kids. The kids were really enerjetic and had a lot of funny books for us to read, and everyone else had a great time so I really enjoyed this exhibition.
